Greg is the founder of Galecki Financial Management, Inc. Greg earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1983 from the University of Cincinnati, with a major in Finance and concentrations in both Business Law and Economics.
He continued his education by earning the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in 1989 from the College of Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado. Greg is a strong advocate of Continuing Education credits for Certified Financial Planners; he normally earns more than twice the Continuing Education credits required for Certified Financial Planners.
Greg has been a frequent lecturer and provider of Continuing Education credits to other Certified Financial Planners. Greg began his Financial Planning career with IDS Financial Services/American Express and was named Financial Planner of the Year in 1987. Receiving this distinction indicated he wrote the most plans featuring the greatest complexities. While he excelled in this commission environment, Greg found the conflict of interest from commissions to be unfulfilling. Desiring a shift to a fee-oriented practice, Greg developed a Financial Planning practice for a CPA firm in Lima, Ohio. He was later promoted to President of that firm's Financial Planning division.
In August of 1990, Greg approached the shareholders of Krouse, Kern & Co., Inc. (a large regional CPA firm located in Fort Wayne, Indiana) and proposed the development of a Financial Planning firm as a separate corporation. Greg developed and operated Krouse Financial Planning, Inc. as the sole Certified Financial Planner for four years. In 1993, he was invited to buy into Krouse Financial Planning, Inc. as an equal shareholder. In August of 1994, Greg purchased the company and changed the name to Galecki Financial Management, Inc.
Greg continues to be a national leader in the Financial Planning industry. He has served as President of the Northern Indiana Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners for four years. During that time, he was invited to speak at conferences for other ICFP presidents. He also taught many of the chapter's continuing education meetings in Fort Wayne and South Bend. Greg has also served as President for the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) Midwest Region and served on the Board of Directors for four years. In 1996, he was the Chairman of the Annual Continuing Education Meeting for Fee-Only Financial Planners in the Midwest region.
Greg has also been invited to speak at various national and regional NAPFA conferences regarding the Initial Financial Overview process he has pioneered. In 1999, Greg was asked by the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) to help develop a test that all Investment Advisors and Financial Planners in the 50 states must pass in order to be licensed by their state. He has also been invited on several occasions by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Governors to assist with reviewing and writing questions for the Comprehensive test given to CFP candidates.
In 1995, Greg organized "Q", a group of six other Fee-Only Financial Planners from Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. Each of these planners is also nationally recognized for their prominence and dedication to the industry. The Q group meets each quarter for two days to discuss current trends in the industry, cutting edge financial planning techniques and also to assist each other with practice management issues. Greg credits the Q group with the ability of GFM to remain on the leading edge of Financial Planning and also stay current with the highest insights in the Financial Planning industry.
Greg was the first member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) in the Fort Wayne area. With fewer than 1200 members nationwide, NAPFA is an elite group of Fee-Only Financial Planners with very stringent requirements for membership. The primary requirements are Fee-Only at all times, higher education standards and stronger ethical codes.
Greg has received recognition from a number of national publications in his career as a Fee-Only Financial Advisor.
Greg was listed as one of the nation's Top 200 Financial Advisors by Worth magazine for three consecutive years. He has also been named to the Wealth Manager and Bloomberg lists of Top Financial Advisors.
In 2006, Greg was named by Medical Economics as one of the Top 150 Financial Advisors for physicians.
Greg spoke at the NAPFA National Conference in May 2007. He was asked to share the structure of the very unique and innovative Succession Plan he has put into place at Galecki Financial Management, Inc.
